Student Activities

Participating fully in university life can help you get the most out of your university education. Not just by participating in student and community activities and in campus social life, but also in the way the university is run.

You can do this in many different ways. For example, serve on any of the various University Committees which convey student opinions and suggestions to staff in formal or informal ways. This is not only genuinely helpful to and appreciated by the university and other students, but also provides you with a great deal of practical experience for your future.

The Students' Union

The Students' Union is a legal body registered with the government and is independent from the University. The Council of the University recognizes the Students' Union as the only umbrella society for all student societies, and thus has approved incorporating the name of the University in its name.

As an undergraduate student, you will be assumed to be a full member of the union when you register at the University. Postgraduate students may join the Students' Union as full members or associate members.

The Business Students' Union

The Business Students' Union (BSU) was the first school union established at HKUST and represents all the business students in the University. The Union encourages business studies and their application in the real world.
In addition to the Student’s Union and the BSU, there are numerous other student societies which you can join that provide academic and cultural activities for their members from different disciplines.

Student Societies

All student associations, clubs or societies are eligible to apply for affiliation with the Students' Union. We have over 100 student societies at HKUST, so you can be sure you will find one that suits your interests.

If you want to join any of the societies, just send your application directly to the individual student societies by e-mail.
